Meet the Experts

Giorgio Bianchi, Partner at Renzo Piano Building Workshop welcomes 3X3 students and talks with them about the design of the facade of the Pompidou Center in Paris.

Discussion

Students talk with M. Bianch about the concepts driving the design of the facade system and the many technical challenges involved in its execution.

Historical Perspectives

Boris Hamzeian is an architectural historian. He is the author of The Live Centre of Information: From Pompidou to Beaubourg, a history of the Centre Pompidou that traces its cultural, material and technical development. He talks with 3X3 students.

Drawings

Students analyze and document the Pompidou Center through hand drawn sketches on site. The drawing exercise focuses not only on capturing the technical aspects of the building, but also on thinking of and developing the drawing itself as a work of art.

Photographs

Students also analyze and document the Pompidou Center through photos and video. Exploring unique conditions and areas of interest that are not previously well documented is encouraged.
